Phil Everly has died in California at the age of 74. Phil and his older brother Don were the Everly Brothers, one of the finest vocal duos in pop history. They enjoyed great success, with many chart hits in the 1950s and 1960s. Their first British chart entry was ‘Bye bye love’ in 1957. Much later, after a falling-out that kept them apart for ten years, they got together for an emotional re-union concert in London’s Albert Hall in 1983. Their rendition of their earlier hit ‘Let it be me’ was, in the circumstances, particularly moving.
