At the World Road Cycling Championships in Richmond, Virginia, England’s Lizzie Armitstead has won the Elite Women’s road race. Road race world championships are international cycling’s most coveted titles, rated above even Olympic gold medals. She is, as of 27 September 2015, the reigning World, Commonwealth and National road race champion. Well done Lizzie!
And the BBC News website hasn’t even put it on its front page. Nor, unforgivably, has the Guardian. A world championship victory in cycling is apparently thought to be less important than England losing a game of rugby or, even worse, any run-of-the-mill Premiership game.
